IN any energy mix for the UK, I would choose the zero carbon options first, nuclear, tidal, wind and solar.

One of the advantages of tidal lagoons is their predictability and the fact that the turbines operate when the tide goes in or out.

I would also have coal or biomass in reserve in case of emergency.

I would never burn shale gas as the environmental cost is far too high.

The MP for York Outer, Julian Sturdy, has voted to allow fracking to take place in the UK and both York and Ryedale are under severe threat.

In the next decade countless flares which are set up for pressure stability will choke the air with the smell of rotten eggs due to the toxic hydrogen sulphide and other compounds from gas extraction.

Jim Ratcliffe of Ineos would be far better off using ethanol from sugar cane rather than shale gas as a feedstock if only in cold engineering terms.

I will not vote for Sturdy, but vote for an MP who will stand up against the impending fracking disaster.

There is a glut of gas in the world and adding to it is plain stupid.
