I STRONGLY disagree with N Green on his observations on the type of music he regards as suitable for certain ages (Letters, March 23).
He is wrong in his assumption that people in their 80s mostly favour that of the 1950s.
I am in that category and I can tell you that I love music of all eras.
I certainly remember the 40s.
We were brought up on radio for entertainment and even the 1930s music hall songs were known and loved by us.
Music has no boundaries, it lightens the heart and brings people together.
He is disrespectful to describe Dame Vera Lynn’s wartime songs as “mawkish”.
She has remained a popular figure through many decades since the Second World War.
I have often dropped into the St Sampson’s Centre and I only see happy people who are catered for in the city centre with care and goodwill by volunteers and management alike.
The entertainment provided on a regular basis is welcomed and appreciated by all ages.
