I’M sorry to hear that N Green feels patronised by our entertainment on March 16 (Letters, March 23) but can I remind the writer that St Sampson’s is a social centre for the over-60s with no upper age limit.

That means that along with our customers in their 60s we have those in their 90s as well - in fact we will be celebrating a 101st birthday next month.

As you can see a wide age range to cater for.

I think that it’s only fitting to mention that the concert was expertly performed by the Harlequins; a group who tour many venues free of charge, and in doing so raise hundreds of pounds for charities like ourselves (thank you so much Harlequins).

Can I ask N Green - did you see much of the concert? The centre was full of happy faces singing along and clapping enthusiastically.

Of course I realise that musical preference is a contentious subject, but we do try to host a variety of acts.

Only the other day we were lucky enough to have Stephen Reid, award-winning singer songwriter, perform some country hits from the 60s and 70s. That too was a great occasion.

Can I finish by expressing my sadness to hearing N Green feel being “older is bad enough”.

One of our volunteers is 90 this year and extremely happy.

We could always do with another pair of hands...
