When a driver was daft enough to do a handbrake turn in the car park of York’s Fulford Road police station last year, officers were quick to pounce. The driver failed a breath test and was arrested on suspicion of dangerous and drink driving.
Quite right too. But given the police’s vigilance in this case, we’re a little surprised officers aren’t a bit more careful when it comes to their own driving.
Figures obtained by The Press reveal that in 2015 and 2016, police officers and other police staff in North Yorkshire were involved in almost 700 collisions. And the most common places for them to have an accident? Police station car parks. Extraordinary.
