ROTARY York Ainsty’s (RYA) rolling programme to install life-saving defibrillators in the western part of York took another step forward on Saturday, February 25, with a collection outside Tesco at Askham Bar.
We would like to thank shoppers for their generous donations and Tesco for their support. A donation will be given to Acomb Sports Club to help install a defib in their clubhouse.
They are well aware even fit sporting people can suffer unexpected heart attacks.
Having just purchased its first unit to be installed in Front Street, Acomb, from donations by local people, RYA will co-operate with local organisations and businesses in Bishopthorpe, Copmanthorpe (where we already have interest), Middlethorpe, Poppleton, Dringhouses and Woodthorpe to raise funding for further units.
We commend Tesco for setting an excellent example, having installed an defib by the door where we were collecting.
Dick Powell, President, Rotary York Ainsty 2016-17, Huntington, York
