TO me, the best part of York is the river bank from Scarborough Bridge to Lendal Bridge.

Coming up and under Scarborough Bridge, it has stunning views of York and the skyline.

It’s so quite and peaceful compared to the top of the bridge.

There is no noise of vehicles just animals, water and a faint cheer of a crowd on a race day wafting in the air.

I find that it is under-used and goes unnoticed by locals and tourists alike.

My question is, why can’t we utilise the banks? Maybe a focal point on the bank, maybe restaurant or cafe serving good food, like you get in the big parks of London.

Show off the river, the views, and maybe on-bank dining like the canal boat cafe has.

What about also having a visitor centre showing the wildlife history of the river and the bank that can link in with the Yorkboat to show it off?

In summer, have events on it like the dragon boat racing, maybe boat racing, a boat/water festival with different boats that may have been used on the Ouse and Foss from Viking and Roman times up to today.

When I email the council and Visit York, they seem not to want to highlight the river.

What do other readers think? Hopefully, there will be a positive response.
