MRS J M Raven is absolutely spot on with her comments about reopening Bootham Park Hospital (Letters, January 11).

The facilities there were old fashioned and outdated and many people had bad memories of this place.

The best way forward is to build a brand new facility like the one in Durham, which is bright modern and airy while still being safe and secure.

The main question remains though: why was Bootham Park allowed to get into such a state?

It is obvious the decline has gone on for many years, including when Labour were last in power, so we can not blame the current Government completely.

I seem to remember when Labour came to power in 1997 they promised billions of pounds to health, education and transport.

Were did all this money go?

Did any of these departments get better?

The answer to the second question is a definite “No”.
