WITH reference to the item on a bid to create a hub for street food and start-up businesses on the former Reynards garage site with converted shipping containers (The Press, November 17), I have only one word for it: hideous.
When you consider this alongside the Stonebow complex, when it comes to planning and architectural merit the Victorians could teach us a thing or two.
Both of these features, along with the new base design at Clifford’s Tower, are out of character with our historic city centre tourist attractions.
For longevity and beauty of design, albeit with an occasional facelift, buildings like York Minster, Mansion House, the Assembly Rooms and Exhibition Square display architectural values combined with the history of the city.
Let’s go back to the drawing board before it is too late to make amends on the Reynards site.
