I WAS dismayed by the news of the Ken Ather Centre closing next year (The Press, November 21).

Once again, the idea that education is all about results appears to have triumphed.

The Ken Ather Centre allowed students who might not thrive in a traditional academic environment to have the opportunity to raise their self-esteem and build strong relationships with both their peers and staff.

If that cannot be measured as a grade it then becomes worthless. What a crying shame.
