I AM sure we all sympathise with the frustration of Alan Burke regarding cyclists without lights (Letters, October 21).

As a cyclist, I very rarely need to go out on my bike at night, but occasionally I nip down to the supermarket after dark and I always have two front and three rear lights and a high-visibility jacket, so it annoys me when I see people (and there are many) without lights.

The thing I find frustrating about this is there is a fixed penalty notice regarding cycling without lights after sunset and before sunrise, and cycling on the pavement, and yet the police must see this as we do and largely ignore it.

The police don’t realise that by only giving irresponsible cyclists advice and lights, they are further enhancing the growing lack of confidence people have in the police force of this country.
