WHAT a day Monday, September 12 turned out to be.

On the local York aspect we have Martin Barrass injured in a motorcycle accident and seriously ill in hospital.

On national news we hear that David Cameron has quit as an MP and The Great British Bake Off has been lost by the BBC to Channel 4.

Cameron only offered the British electorate a referendum on the EU membership because he couldn’t control his own party’s MPs and (sadly) lost the referendum and therefore stood down as Prime Minister.

He has now decided to leave the Houses of Parliament totally.

He is obviously running away from his mistake without so much as offering the British public one iota of an apology.

Never mind Mr Cameron, you might soon be able to offer an alternative style of “kitchen cabinet” by joining Channel 4s new version of The Great British Bake Off and you could end up serving the British people with lots of dishes of “soggy bottoms”.

I, along with I would imagine many thousands of York residents, wish Martin Barrass a speedy recovery.

In the meantime, somebody should whisper down his ear the immortal words to any entertainer, “the show must go on”.

Get well soon, Martin.
