SO Holgate Labour campaigners are telling us that the York Central plans do not cater for local people (The Press, September 13).
Unfortunately, the whole Local Development Plan for York that has recently undergone yet another round of insincere “consultation” is, like all other local authority development plans, based on population growth projections drawn up at national level.
The figures that York’s development plan is based on clearly show that 65 per cent of all proposed development and job growth in York is fuelled by “international migration”.
The whole “Local” Plan and the oft-repeated “housing crisis” in York is an entirely artificially generated situation created by York’s share of the net 300,000 people flooding into this country every year.
I wonder why local politicians who campaign to “protect” York’s greenbelt at election time and then merely play pass the parcel with development sites in the Local (or should that be International) Plan not want the public to know these figures?
It’s not just York Central that won’t be catering for York people, it’s two thirds of the whole development plan.
Cllr Mark Warters, Osbaldwick ward, York
