FOLLOWING the referendum, I have noticed that virtually everyone has misinterpreted and misquoted what the results tell us.

It is clear that millions of those adults entitled to vote did not do so. Perhaps this was due to their lack of interest or not knowing which way to vote.

The truth is that of the UK adults entitled to vote, 37 per cent voted to leave, less than 35 per cent voted to stay and 28 per cent didn’t vote.

In York, just 41 per cent of adults entitled to vote showed their desire to stay within the EU, whereas a combined 59 per cent either didn’t vote or voted to leave the EU.

Nicola Sturgeon also keeps quoting that most people in Scotland wanted to stay in the EU, but a lower proportion of Scots actually voted than the English.

Thus it was actually 42 per cent of Scots who showed their desire to stay in the EU as a combined 58 per cent either didn’t vote or voted to leave the EU.

Even when Scotland had their vote on leaving the UK in 2014 it was actually less than 38 per cent of those resident in Scotland who voted to leave and 62 per cent either didn’t vote or voted to stay in the UK.
