ARTIC terns migrate halfway around the world and back (24,000 miles a year) we can keep track of their movements and know their location anywhere in the world.

My local butcher, Wilson’s of Huntington, advertises where its local meat comes from, names the farm and if asked I feel sure they even know its birthday, the day it died and possibly its name and the name of its best friend.

Recently I heard of a cat killed on the road and a local vet traced its owners by way of a microchip - and yet we have millions of migrants entering Europe and effectively disappearing off the radar.

We have the technology to track people (the microchip) but have we the political will to disregard the EU human rights issue and implant every migrant (ultimately all EU citizens) with a microchip?

It would include details of their fingerprints, photo, health details, passport etc. George Orwell and 1984, yes, but desperate times require desperate measures.
