THE public of York have the power of the ballot box to control who we elect, but have no control of how they act when in power.

Local governance campaigner Gwen Swinburn (The Press, May 11) deserves the thanks of us all for her dogged persistence in trying to insist that all councillors and senior staff at Station Rise do not abuse their positions by keeping secret any information that should be in the public domain.

Anyone that saw the webcast of the way that our Lord Mayor, Sonja Crisp, treated Ms Swinburn at a March council meeting will know the need for an independent local resident body to set new guidance rules for the behaviour of councillors and senior council staff.
