THANK you Heather Causnett for inviting readers’ views on the subject of the heir to the throne (Letters, May 5).

It has been said that behind every good man is a good woman and if that is so, Charles would fit the role admirably as since his marriage to Camilla in 2005 no-one can dispute his happiness.

Prince Charles’ disastrous marriage to Lady Diana Spencer was doomed from the start because she was chosen for him after he lost the love of his life dithering.

Diana was a future Queen in the making, from good aristocracy stock, beautiful, elegant and in love with Charles.

But he had already experienced a relationship with a bold, earthy woman, renowned for her bold, earthy language.

Consequently, the “three in this marriage” became two, leaving Charles to openly pursue his “non-negotiable” bride to be, as 21st century ruling does not exclude those entitled commoners from marrying royalty.

Respectfully, Prince William and Catherine have somewhat of a journey to go. Nevertheless, Diana would be proud of both of sons today.
