THE pictures (The Press, February 8) of York market in 1951 and 2016 are a good illustration of why there are empty stalls in today’s market.
In 1951 the market was in the centre of town surrounded by shops, and there were throngs of people looking round all the stalls.
In 2016, the market is hidden in a backwater and there are just five people walking past, with not one person looking at the stalls.
