I ADDRESS this letter to the City of York Council and ask them to review the suitability of the recycling boxes issued to York residents, which I regard as not fit for purpose.
Every time that we suffer high winds, the lids and nets of these boxes blow off and their contents are strewn all over the streets, gardens and fields. We have had eight such storms this winter (Henry being the latest). The lids and boxes blow into roads and are run over by passing traffic turning them into shards of black plastic.
I have noticed that some other councils supply a recycling wheelie bin which take mixed recycle products and I ask which is better, to have to sort recycling in a central depot or to let the contents be blown into open spaces.
