ALL the letters regarding for or against having a bus station seem to be the missing the point.

What we really need is a more cohesive bus service that runs on time.

I am fed up of having to endure long periods waiting for a bus that either doesn’t turn up, or is so late that I could have easily walked into town in less time. The sad reality, however, is that perhaps nobody is at fault.

For decades now York always has had a traffic problem with cars competing with buses in an obscene tussle over road space.

City of York Council seems unable to fix this ongoing problem. Perhaps the way to solve it is a simple one, which was confided to me by a frustrated lady commuter.

She summed it up in two words which will cause motorists to tremble. York needs a congestion charge.

It has worked in London and if this charge could be siphoned off into a cheaper better bus service, then I am all for it.

Let’s release ourselves from this daily madness of traffic jams.
