THE stained glass window which will be installed in a York church as a lasting memorial to servicemen who saw duty in Afghanistan has been hailed as 'wonderful' and a 'fitting tribute' by the relatives of those who died there.
Among those commemorated by the window are York servicemen Marine David Hart, Trooper Ashley David Smith and Lance Bombardier Matthew Hatton, who all lost their lives in Afghanistan.
Matthew's parents, Phil and Jill Hatton, were unstinting in their praise. "We think the window is wonderful," they said.
We agree. The window has been funded by the City of York Afghanistan Commemorative Appeal, launched by The Press. Designed by stained glass artist Helen Whittaker, it features a dove of peace and symbols representing units that served in Afghanistan.
A fitting tribute indeed.
