WHILE I have no particular feeling or thoughts about the shiny letter Y trophy for the winner of the Tour de Yorkshire this year, I cannot help but wonder why the trophy isn’t a white rose and the rose doesn’t appear anywhere (as far as I can see).

I have had a look at the official blue and yellow tour jersey and can see no sign of the white rose there either.

If anyone asked me prior to this what symbol depicts Yorkshire, I would say the white rose, as, I am sure, would many others.

I understand the name being Tour de Yorkshire instead of Tour of Yorkshire, given that the race is owned by the French company Amaury Sports Organisation, and some areas of the tour have been given French names in acknowledgement.
