THAT York Minster’s only royal tomb is empty surely baffles many residents of the city and its multitude of visitors when they learn that the rightful occupant of the tomb is buried somewhere nearby.
Given opportunity, the seeming magic of our ubiquitous technology would prompt high hopes of tracking down the grave of William of Hatfield, second son of King Edward III (1312-1377).
Such a find could bring about elevation of the ten-year-old prince’s remains to the resting place that his status merits.
In the event what a boost for Mother York.
