THE gentleman who complained about being a prisoner in his home during the Tour de Yorkshire is only one of thousands I’m sure who will be severely inconvenienced as a result of the many road closures on that day.
This is hardly an international event such as the Tour de France, but it is causing far more disruption.
How are people expected to get into the city? I imagine traders will lose out. Many visitors to York will be unable to access shops or attractions. Bus travel will be in chaos.
Whatever possessed organisers and the council to decide on a route which caused such problems?
We are not all cyclists or walkers and not all of us are so keen on seeing the race either.
I would have expected more consultation with the residents and businesses of York and surrounding areas which might have resulted in a more acceptable route.
