I AM bemused by the policy of First York bus service regarding child fares.

My eldest daughter, who is 19, was boarding a No 6 bus at Clifton Moor with her younger sister, who is 11.

My eldest daughter is a regular bus user and buys weekly tickets. She flashed her ticket, then asked for a child single for my youngest daughter.

The bus driver asked if she had a Yozone card, which she doesn’t as she has never needed one. So the driver then said he would have to charge her an adult fare.

My daughter is obviously a child and was in fact in her primary school uniform at the time. How is it right to charge a primary school child an adult fare?

They were both upset by the challenge. I looked at the First York website to see about obtaining a Yozone card, only for the info to state that the cards are for secondary school children.

I feel this policy needs addressing and common sense needs applying.
