THE article headline “Boom time for York properties” (The Press, March 19) was disheartening.

It revealed that “a reported soaring demand for a limited supply of prime property has seen city-centre values raised 8.2 per cent above their previous peak in 2007”.

It was also revealed, crowed about, that 17 per cent of York`s buyers were relocating to the region from London.

Do we want York to become like London and some beautiful villages, places where those with ties to the community sometimes going back generations can no longer afford to live?

I don’t want York to be a ghetto either for the poor or the wealthy, but I do want people who cherish our city to be able to continue living in it and contributing to it.
