MRS Nelson (Letters, March 17) notes that the local primary school near to the Barratt development in New Lane, Huntington, is full.

Not only is the school full; since the opening of the Vangarde site (John Lewis/M&S, etc), there has been a massive increase in the traffic using our roads across Huntington and New Earswick.

As the stadium at Monks Cross is rightly to be a Community Stadium, it will generate yet more traffic at all times (not just match days).

As well as the New Lane development – it was not green belt land, so difficult to defend – there are also two housing developments in Huntington currently being built. As they are brownfield sites we supported them, but they will bring yet more traffic to our area.

We believe that Huntington is taking, and has taken, more than its share of commercial and housing development in recent years. “Enough is enough” is a regular lament of local people.

This is why we object to the proposals to increase the housing numbers of Huntington by more than 40 per cent by building nearly 2,000 houses on green-belt land.
