YET again City of York Council has wasted money and yet again the vulnerable will suffer.
The new care homes that were to built in York are now shelved but in the meantime it has cost £350,000 in planning and negotiations (The Press, February).
But closing unfit for purpose homes is still on the agenda.
Developing the Lowfield site is in principle a good idea, but then only a quarter will be for the elderly.
It is more beneficial for our more senior citizens to remain independent in their own homes. But in some cases this is not possible for a number of reasons and they may need more care.
A care home is then the next option if family are not able to care for them.
But the council scrapping these plans is going to put more strain on the already-overstretched hospital.
Surely a care home would be more suitable and safer for those elderly people who need such a facility.
I hope that the council in its wisdom could reconsider.
You never know, one day our council members may reach an age where they need extra care and assistance and possibly a care home.
