I AM delighted that York Labour Party members have selected Rachael Maskell to be our Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for York Central.

Not only does Rachael possess years of experience representing NHS workers, she understands the real-life impact of the Tory-Lib Dem Government cuts to public services.

The choice cannot be clearer: if the Tories win the General Election, they plan to reduce public spending to levels last seen in the 1930s.

Rachael is passionate about making a difference in York; by supporting policies that make our city fairer – promotion of the living wage, getting rid of the bedroom tax and tackling the sky-high housing costs for York’s generation of renters.

I know Rachael will be an outstanding voice for our city and I will be working flat-out to ensure she is elected as York’s first female MP.
