IN REPLY to Andy Wheller’s letter of February 9, headlined “Chancellor’s short-sighted vision”, it seems obvious that he hates everything that is not run by the public sector.
It’s the private sector that creates the wealth of this country, something Mr Wheller and the Labour Party seem to be in denial about.
The scale of the public-sector borrowing by the last Labour government, inherited by George Osborne, was huge and was subsequently discovered to be even bigger.
This Coalition government has achieved a great deal out of the unholy mess left by Labour, ie created nearly one and a half million new jobs in the private sector, achieved more than three per cent growth (the biggest in the EU), very low inflation, and a stable economy.
Had a Labour government achieved anything like it they would be singing from the rooftops.
So yes, Mr Wheller, I agree that everyone should register to vote in May, and make sure we get a government that understands that the wealth of a country is created by the private sector.
