I SHOULD like to remind sitting councillors of all political parties that the Guildhall complex is the local seat of democracy and has been for the best part of 600 years; it is not a funfair or an amusement park on which to append various bells and whistles.
I was disappointed to see that Labour and the Greens voted together to ensure that the Guildhall feasibility project goes through to its next stage of funding.
Just like that: £500,000 has been waived through with insufficient time for the public and/or councillors to properly consider the merits and risks, when taking into account that rare old commodity of value for money.
I am worried for local council taxpayers if the project is allowed to continue at the same pace, largely unchecked, when it comes to scrutinising the £12 million or so that the grand scheme is estimated to cost.
Keith Rozelle, Conservative candidate, Guildhall ward, Dixons Yard, York.
(Mr Rozelle points out that he attended the meeting as a local resident).
