FIXED-TERM elections seemed a good idea at the time, but we now realise that it means electioneering, like Christmas, starts too early and we will have plenty of time to get sick of the subject.

Many of the jibes and comments started before Christmas and now every PMQs sounds like a party political broadcast and will not stop until the election is over.

We hear a lot about voters losing interest in politics, with many not even bothering to vote. Yet the sight of the Commons bear pit each Wednesday is enough to put off young people for life.

The present Parliament, with its childish antics, should (in the interests of democracy) be restricted to a fixed time before electioneering proper can begin, so we avoid losing interest in the democratic process.
