I WOULD like to ‘thank’ the motorist in Ambrose Street on Saturday at about 6.45pm who refused to reverse back down the street to allow me to manoeuvre my car at the river end of the road.

I was having trouble getting down the lane because of so many parked cars and got out of my car to politely ask him to reverse so I could turn round. He refused and was laughing at me.

The motorist, a man in his 50s, must have felt really good, really revelling in the Christmas spirit, when he then suddenly moved his car even further towards me, making it even more difficult for me to move.

I am a decent driver with many years of experience, and able to stick up for myself. What if I had been a less able driver or a more timid person? Or what if something really upsetting had just happened in my family?

The man was trying to bully me. His attitude completely changed, though, when my husband arrived. It seemed he didn’t dare be rude to another man. Then another, kinder, motorist agreed to reverse down the lane and we were able to drive away.
