AFTER upsetting residents elsewhere in Westfield by claiming credit for the installation of a playground, you would have thought that Cllr Steve Burton would be a little more circumspect (Letters, October 23).

There is no doubt that the Foxwood Community Centre has benefitted from the actions of York Cares and the many volunteers drawn from businesses across the city. However, Cllr Burton was noticeable by his absence and lack of support before and during the event.

In fact earlier this year, the centre management committee wrote to the council asking for him to be replaced as the council’s official representative due to his lack of understanding of the role and failure to action requests made by the committee.

It is the role of the management committee to thank the volunteers and organisers, which we did at the beginning of each session and again last night, at the official opening of the new garden.

Jean Forrester, Committee Member FCC, Beagle Ridge Drive, York.
