I WAS interested to learn that a recent report has identified that York has too many cheap hotels and is becoming a “hen and stag paradise” (The Press, October 23).

The report concludes, apparently, that York needs more upmarket accommodation to increase spend per visitor.

However, these budget hotels are already here. Surely what we really need is a radical tourism strategy, backed up by robust crime prevention and other measures, that ensures these hotels are full of happy families rather than drunken mobs.
