IT WAS interesting to read in The Press of October 10 that two more York Labour councillors have left the party, plunging the Labour group into a minority position.

The fact that five Labour councillors have now resigned in York since August 2012 is surely indicative of underlying concerns about the leadership of Cllr James Alexander.

Also, we have highly paid senior officers employed by City of York Council, yet one cannot help noticing that whenever tricky situations arise it appears that consultants are engaged to assist in solving the problem.

Could this be an attempt to ensure that if recommendations or policies fail, the blame can be put on the shoulders of the consultants and not on our councillors or senior officers?

I hope recent events will ensure that all our councillors seriously take into account the views of the electorate and are able in future to act in an independent manner, as their conscience permits, in the best interests of the whole community.

Our councillors should not overlook the fact that we shall have an opportunity to judge their performances when elections take place in May.
