WHY IS it that York councillors feel it necessary to write so many letters to The Press on the issue of internal council procedure?

Far from defending local democracy, it undermines it as they look petty and incompetent.

The people of York will vote in 2015 and deserve a real campaign fought on the grounds of policy not procedure. Please stop squabbling and start earning their vote.

Nick Emmerson, Dringhouses, York.

Since members of his own party are involved, you'd have thought Mr Emmerson could have had a quiet word at a branch meeting, if the Liberals still have them, rather than airing their dirty linen in public.

Also it's a good way to publicise their stance against certain issues. Whilst I won't vote for certain parties hearing opposition against stupid ideas means other people may vote back in Lib Dems over labour (The devil we knew over the devil we currently know)
