Tax impact

COUNCILLOR James Alexander’s letter (Some home truths, July 30) persuasively argues that young families in York are being priced out of their own city.

However, it is strange that this did not seem to bother him when he put up council tax year-on-year during the worst recession in living memory.

An act that directly impacted on the budgets of families young and old, singles, couples, the sick and the elderly.

Nick Emmerson, Dringhouses, York.

My thoughts entirely, people struggling and what do our Councils do? Put up your cost of living further. Ever heard of the straw that broke the Camels back?
Reminds me of Ed Miliband, through his 2008 Climate Change Act adding 15% to electricity bills. Now he wants a freeze on domestic energy prices.

Have Jimmy and Ed thought this through?

Labour are the true party of high taxation hitting those who work in average paid jobs the hardest ... council tax went up over 100% during the blair/brown years, did they attempt to cap it? no
