NOW that the bike race has gone, can I suggest to James Alexander that he has a walk round his own ward, Holgate, and see where the money spent on the bike race should have been spent on long-term benefits and not on a ride-past lasting a few seconds.

Falconer Street has weeds growing higher than the concrete verges and a deep pothole that has been there for months.

Elsewhere in the ward, hedges are overgrowing footpaths causing a hazard to pedestrians, particularly at night as some of the overhanging branches are brambles. The footpaths and roads are crumbling and not easy to walk or cycle on. I am sure that these criticisms are also to be found in other wards throughout the city.

Let’s hope that some action can be taken before Mr Alexander resigns, as he promised over Lendal Bridge.

Clarification

City of York council leader, Cllr James Alexander, has asked us to point  out that he did not promise to resign over the Lendal Bridge controversy. We are happy to set the record straight.
