WHILE I have no sympathy for the disgraced entertainer Rolf Harris, I wonder how many of his victims would have come forward if he was not in the public eye, or how would the police and prosecution services have acted if he wasn’t famous?
Indecent assault, sexual abuse and inappropriate behaviour towards children is a blight on our society. For years it has been cloaked by familial bonds which have sought to ‘normalise’ this diabolical behaviour.
The fact is that there are probably thousands of men and women who are at large in Britain today who deserve the same scrupulous investigation as happened to Rolf Harris and other celebrities.
The pain and hurt of a child who has been abused should not be graded by the notoriety of the abuser.
