Is York really in great Tour shape?

I SUPPORT Ann Gray on the state of York streets. I have never seen them so bad.

All the flowers and bunting in the world cannot hide the fact that they are a disgrace to our city.

I get tired of all the self-congratulatory spin put out by the tourist sectors about York. Yes, look up and we do have magnificent and wonderful buildings, but look down, it is shameful.

Cannot all these people who are putting so much effort into the Le Tour event exercise that same enthusiasm for everyday cleanliness?

It seems that the council are concerned with employing people to peel stickers off lamposts and remove graffiti within 30 seconds, whilst ignorning the general state of everyting else that surrounds the gleaming piece of brickwork.

In most other places the streets are clean but the buildings are covered in graffiti, here is the opposite it seems.

Ah well, you can't have it all.

Just don't see it like this and I've lived here all my life. Been far worse in the past and parts of York have been transformed recently - the Museum Gardens for example are very smart.

Its not perfect, we need more litter bins in the centre and they need emptying more frequently. Outside McDonalds also is a disgrace, but then the restaurant should do more to help.

Over all though, I think York is better than it used to be in terms of cleanliness and I must visit the centre at least five times a week.
