Stereotypical

First published in Letters by

IN HIS column (The Press 29 May 14), Julian Cole espouses his views on UKIP supporters (I am not one, for the record).

However, to underline his point, he uses an unpleasant regional stereotype of the straw-chewing bumpkin to infer that the Somerset voter is ill-educated making the voter’s opinion inferior to his own.

Similar treatment of the electorate by the old order of mainstream politicians and the media intelligentsia throughout the campaign has probably accelerated the progress UKIP has made.

As an aside, I suggest he would not dare use a similar insult towards a nationality or ethnic grouping through fear of immediate censure.

Good letter Mike. Julian Cole is just a bad loser and spat his dummy out.

It's like some Man Utd fans expecting to be among the top flight because of who they are and historical success. But you have to have the results to be at the current top and it's the same with political parties. They have had their chance and their day!

Did I see a footnote in the press saying he voted green? Well that can mean one of two things - either he just chucked his vote away or he supports higher energy bills and wants to live in a world where only the privileged few can afford to heat their homes and drive a car and is also is a believer in a party whose leader said if any senior civil servant disagrees with the climate change theory then they should be sacked.

Yes, it's a sad day when our energy policy is based on a belief system.
Just nice to know that we have not all been brainwashed. (Greenwashed)
This will be the biggest U turn in history, can't be long now. Oh, and if the IPCC are still at it for their next assessment then you can bet that their confidence factor will be up from 95% to their magic number of 97%.
Can't wait!

I was just thinking, if these comments were on the Guardian site they would be deleted. We have a score adjuster instead but at least you are allowed to read the other side. As said, not all brainwashed with 97% agree, And I don't agree with Nick!
