LET’S hope the organisers of the Grand Départ have a better knowledge of the geography of York than the author of the route through the city (York Press Tour de France supplement, March 27).

From a start on Campleshon Road, we are told the peleton will take “a right on to Bishopthorpe Road”.

This would come as a great surprise to the people of Bishopthorpe, and a massive disappointment to the crowds lining the city centre streets.

Later, it states that at the end of Davygate: “a right turn on to Church Street will lead the riders on to Goodramgate”.

No. A right turn would be into Feasgate, which would lead them into Market Street, with the prospect of carnage as the leaders collide with the followers at the junction with Spurriergate/Coney Street.

Now that would be something worth watching! I think your feature writer “ne peut pas distinguer la main gauche de la main droite!
