Letter of the year

York Press: Letter of the year Letter of the year

I KNOW it is only March, but I feel I already have to concede defeat in the race for The Press letter writer of the year 2014.

I feel I cannot compete against The Press favourites. These are R. Hutchinson who had two letters printed in one night and M. Robinson, who also had two letters printed in one night, three letters on two consecutive nights and four letters on two consecutive weeks.

When I asked for an explanation as to how this happened, I received no reply, even though I have two letters outstanding. I can only assume I am either out of favour or I am sending my emails to the wrong address.

AP Cox, Heath Close, Holgate, York.

• Editor's note: Mr Cox is not out of favour, as we hope the publication of his letter shows

You would be more likely to get your letters printed if you stopped whingeing and wrote something that was of interest to other people.

I couldn't care less who writes letters to the press, I'll read it if it's interesting.

Correction, I don't always bother with P P's anti-car gridlock rants.

AP Cox is clearly an attention seeker.

The Press doesn't help by producing it's annual "League tables". Letters should be about having something valid and interesting to say and should not be the utter dross, such as in this letter, just so an individual can get their name in print x number of times a year.

I recall that it was a Press reader who did all the calculations.......

Gosh, letters page victim syndrome (LPVS) strikes again.

Awww poor AP Cox!
Some others are getting in print more often.
Write in and complain! "It's not fair, I'm not winning!"

Y'know it's really odd because I thought a local newspaper letters page was a platform for all of the readership to express their opinions and not a popularity competition or hit parade for a few tryers?

I feel I cannot compete against The Press favourites.

Thanks for the admission, AP.
In future we can all know that AP Cox isn't writing in to share opinion, anecdote, wisdom, witticism or whimsy and not at all wishing to inspire debate, discussion and deliberation - apparently it's a numbers competition.
Pretty much puts the boot into anything AP Cox has to say from now on, doesn't it?

Well maybe it does for everyone else, I already had it marked down from the ridiculous anti-cyclist letters.
