I don’t scribble

York Press: I don’t scribble I don’t scribble

Geoffrey Searston asked me to respond to some housing questions in these pages (Letters, December 28). This letter addresses the final of four questions Geoffrey would like answered.

His question was “How small is the envelope on which he scribbles his “big” ideas?” I don’t scribble, I don’t write ideas on envelopes, but I do have big ideas and I like to see them through.

Coun James Alexander, Leader, City of York Council.

What a shame JA won't see his housing ideas through.

Even if he got re-elected in 2015 (which he won't), his 1,090 new homes per year will not be achieved in York in the next decade.

Yes Mr Alexander we have seen the outcome of your 'Big Ideas' , Beckfield Lane recycling centre closed and demolished, and ready for more apartments. The attempted sale of Clarence Street car park to St Johns College, 20mph signs all over York at great cost in streets where one would be lucky to achieve 15mph. The Barbican theatre car park area which could have been raising thousands of pounds over the years it has been laid to waste and is still a eyesore, Lendal Bridge, I could go on but where does one stop. I think most people are aware this phase of your career is just a stepping stone to what you want to aspire to, taking over from your hero HB. Heaven help York.
