I REFER to the item in The Press on Wednesday, February 12, quoting an organisation called “York People’s Assembly” who were demanding that the council refuse to set a budget.
To avoid confusion in the minds of readers, I wish to clarify that the York Older People’s Assembly has no connection whatever with the protest group who attended the cabinet meeting.
Had your reporter quoted their full title including the words “Against Austerity” the confusion might have been less. York Older People’s Assembly is a non-political organisation representing older people in York and is a registered charity. We work with the council, health bodies, the police and other voluntary organisations to create a better York in the interests of the 30,000 older people living in the city.
Bob Towner, Chair, York Older People’s Assembly, The Garth, White Rose Avenue, New Earswick, York.
