GODFREY BLOOM’S claim that UK energy prices are amongst the highest in the free world is misleading because it is based on pre-tax prices.
Consumers care about the total price, not the pre-tax price. By world standards, UK electricity tax is very low, so despite the high prices charged by our electricity suppliers, consumer costs are below EU average.
Mr Bloom also claims no global warming has occurred in the past 18 years. Have a look on Wikipedia: there’s a NASA graph showing clearly that the last 18 years have included the hottest 17 on record, 12 of them this century.
Five-year running average temperatures have risen about 0.3 degrees in the past 20 years, and another 0.3 degrees in the previous 20.
