Watch out for cowboys

First published in Letters by

I WAS watching Cowboy Decorators not long ago and then I became a victim.

I shouldn’t have but I paid him £2,700 cash in hand to have my flat, which is a one bedroom flat, decorated. It took him seven months to do and even after that time it was still not finished properly.

I could not relax in my own home as there were tools and mess everywhere. Even the police were shocked at what he did.

Those sort pretend to be your friends and rip you off without conscience. Something should be done about them.

I’d be interested to know if anyone else has had my experience.

Tug job says...

You should always get at least three quotes before going ahead as, even if you decide not to use one of them, you will at least have an indication of the likely costs. Rather than paying cash up front, ask the tradesman what they will need to start off and buy this yourself - this approach also avoids the tradesman from making a large mark up by buying inferior products.
