I REFER to the article headed “Taxpayers’ £300k bill over North Yorkshire Credit Union” (The Press, November 6).
In theory the credit union is a good thing because it is an independent, non-profit financial organisation, owned and controlled by its members.
A suggestion that could possibly improve North Yorkshire Credit Union is to have doorstep collectors who go out on a weekly/monthly basis and collect the low-cost loan repayments like many doorstep lenders successfully do with people with a bad credit rating.
