The Acomb unit of first aid charity the St John Ambulance is planning to hold a reunion next year to celebrate its 75th anniversary.

It is keen for former members or their families to get in touch with stories, old photographs and memorabilia about their time with the brigade.

Tim Fallows, the Acomb unit’s leader, has already been sent this wonderful photograph, taken in Parliament Street on June 21, 1953, at what he thinks was an event related to the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II.

The photograph shows John Peel, the then Acomb divisional superintendent of the organisation’s Ambulance division, with four young Acomb cadet members: left to right Margaret Bates (née Archer), Rita Pickering (née Simpson), Maureen Bueters (née Simpson) and Anne Gebbie (née Birch).

“They still regularly meet up to this day!” Tim says.
