APPLES are being celebrated this week at historic Beningbrough Hall and Gardens.
The National Trust is organising a range of activities during Apple Week at the stately home near York, including demonstrations of apple- pressing, specialist short talks and sampling of a range of apple-themed foods in the restaurant.
Visitors can help with harvesting the fruits, and gardeners and volunteers will be demonstrating how they are turned into apple juice with a traditional press. A spokesman said: “Gardeners will be on hand to answer any questions about growing or eating apples, and there will be specialist short talks during the week on a variety of topics.
“Although the focus is on apples, it is a good opportunity to have a look at the 27 varieties of pears that are growing too making the total number of trees in the walled garden over 120.”
